Precitech Collaborates with Keene State College to Teach Ultra-precision Machining
Ships Nanoform X diamond turning lathe to Keene State
Keene, NH, January 26, 2021 – Precitech has announced the shipment of a Nanoform X ultra-precision diamond turning lathe to Keene State College. The machine, which is used to make high-precision optical components, shipped to the Technology Design and Safety Center (TDS Center) at Keene State College where it will be used to teach students in Sustainable Product Design and Innovation classes, such as its course in ultra-precision manufacturing.
Keith Kowalski, Vice President and Business Unit Manager of Precitech, said, "Today we are excited to have installed a Nanoform X at Keene State College to support their new curriculum in Optics and Super Precision Manufacturing starting in the spring semester. We are delighted to help strengthen the local ultra-precision machining community by partnering to train the next generation right here in Keene, NH."
Dr. Lisa Hix, Keene State College Associate Professor of Sustainable Product Design and Innovation, said, “We are grateful for the efforts by AMETEK/Precitech in developing our partnership to bring this amazing technology to our students. This will help students prepare for a range of career opportunities as they learn about and experience the capabilities of ultra-precision machining used in the field of advanced research, medical and automotive industries, and in communication and aerospace applications.” Dr. Hix continued, “This technology is an important part of a new Optics and Precision Manufacturing Program at Keene State College, created in collaboration with industry partners to develop the talents needed in our workforce.
